Afterschool Essentials: A 2-Day Institute

An intensive that includes an introduction to the afterschool field, and an overview of key youth development principles and practices.

Supervisors, have you hired new staff recently who would benefit from foundational youth work training?

Direct youth professionals, are you new to the field and eager to build your skills and network?

PASE is offering “Afterschool 101,” an in-person, all-day, 2-day Institute for new afterschool staff. This intensive introduces participants to the afterschool field, providing an overview of key youth development principles and practices and core knowledge of what it means to be in the youth services field. The Institute is not intended to replace site-specific onboarding but will provide a broad orientation to their work. Lunch provided.

Note: Organizations can register up to three (3) staff.

Topics covered include:

  • The Why and What of Afterschool
  • Positive Youth Development Principles ​
  • Ages and Stages ​
  • Fostering Healthy Youth Engagement ​
  • Effective Classroom Management​
  • Lesson Planning​
  • Professionalism & Growth ​

This institute is for frontline educators (activity specialists, group leaders, etc.) new to their roles and the field (1 year or less of youth development experience).

NEW Date and Time: November 20th and 21st, 2023, from 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM (on each day)

Includes 45-minute lunch breaks and smaller breaks throughout
