Summary

First Tech Fund is a 501(c)3 dedicated to empowering students of underserved backgrounds with technology access, practical skills, and opportunities to succeed in the modern world. As we gear up for our next 24-25 cohort, we are recruiting BIPOC volunteers for a number of volunteer opportunities!

Qualifications

  • Have a passion  for the First Tech Fund mission of empowering students from underserved backgrounds
  • You must be able to attend our 30-minute Volunteer 101  Zoom call (more information on the volunteer application)
  • Must be willing to do a background check as a final step in the volunteer recruitment process

Duties

We’re supporting 100 fellows in our upcoming cohort and to serve them we will be prioritizing mentorship. Here are the volunteer opportunities available below:

💻 Career Panelists
➝ We host 1-hour, virtual career panels each month on Tuesday or Thursday evenings featuring young professionals from historically excluded racial & ethnic identities to ensure our students are connecting with people who look like them and come from similar backgrounds to align with our mantra: “you can't be what you can't see.”

💻 Resume Reviewers
➝  We review resumes as our students submit them, so we will assign you resumes to review based on your availability.

💻 College Essay Reviewers
➝  We review college essays for edits and give feedback as our students submit them for feedback, so we will assign you college essays to review based on your availability. Typically the prime time that they come in would be Septemeber through January.

💻 Mentors
➝ We are looking for young professionals interested in contributing to our students in a more dedicated capacity. Mentors meet with their mentee(s) virtually either 1:1 or in small mentorship pods at least once a month from September to May. Mentors help guide our mentee(s)' interest for their career path and support their mentee(s)’ academic & career goals. We match mentors according to their academic and career backgrounds and identities.
