Concrete Safaris

Summary

Concrete Safaris has prepared youth in East Harlem and beyond to lead healthy lives and shape their environment through outdoor education, play, exploration, and community engagement since 2008. This is an opportunity for individuals (ages 18+) to apply for a full-time or part - time service role at Concrete Safaris’ PlacemakingCorps, a Public Health AmeriCorps grantee. Concrete Safaris’ PlacemakingCorps offers individuals a year of service to explore a career in public and environmental health and placemaking, while supporting youth development and community building.



Qualifications

  • Must be age 18+
  • Must have high school or equivalency diploma
  • Must be a US citizen or US national or lawful permanent resident
  • Must pass criminal background checks
  • Must be interested in pursuing a career in the field of public health
  • Must be able to and willing to get to and from Concrete Safaris East Harlem campus


Duties

  • Through direct service, planning, and leadership of child and youth-centered environmental health service learning projects, AmeriCorps members will gain skills and confidence to develop as leaders.
  • AmeriCorps members will educate children and youth on environmental health, facilitating implementation of their visions for a healthy neighborhood through gardening, outdoor play, and art interventions for neighbors.
  • AmeriCorps members may also provide local referrals for medical and public health services.
