Tutor- College Passport

University Settlement

Summary

Overview

University Settlement’s Talent Search program seeks to increase the number of youths from disadvantaged backgrounds who complete high school or equivalent and enroll in post-secondary education institutions of their choice. The program is hosted at University Settlement’s five partnered high school, whose mission is to empower young people to reach their potential by providing comprehensive youth development services in a diverse and caring environment.

Part-time Math and English tutors will play a critical goal in helping students achieve their academic goals, including, passing the New York State Regents, or improving their SAT scores. Tutors work with students one- on- one or in small group sessions, providing academic support in a subject area of their choice. Tutoring requires patience, perseverance, and strong interpersonal skills. Occasionally, tutors will need to detour from the main subject area to keep up the energy of a tutoring session. Tutoring is provided onsite at the assigned high school or Middle School. The time will vary but will typically take place within the school day or after-school.
