Global Kids Annual Youth Conference

The 2019 Global Kids Annual Youth Conference on Criminal Justice Reform will be held on May 23, 2019 at Hunter College. This full-day, youth-organized and youth-led event will bring together over 500 young people from public schools across New York City, Washington, DC and beyond to explore human rights, criminal justice, and efforts for reform both locally and globally. Participants will develop strategies to create change on these important issues both inside and outside their communities. Plenary sessions will feature speakers and creative performances while workshops will cover such topics as the impact of the war on drugs, prisoner's rights, racism and discrimination, incarceration of minors, political prisoners, and more.

Specialized High School Admissions Test Summer Program

StuyPrep is a summer program for seventh graders to help them prepare for the Specialized High School Admissions Test (SHSAT) in October of their eighth grade academic year. All seventh-grade students interested in getting SHSAT test prep help are encouraged to apply by completing an application and a diagnostic test. There are 150 free seats available for the 2019-20 school year. Application deadline is May 25, 2019.

Bronx Documentary Center Summer Photography Program

The Bronx Junior Photo League summer program is a free six-week-long zine and photobook making class for students entering the 6 - 12 grades. All experience levels are welcome and cameras and materials are provided by the Bronx Documentary Center. The class will meet twice a week to visit galleries and photograph throughout the five boroughs. Students will learn about the history of and how to make zines, how to use InDesign, and how to make a handmade photobook featuring their work. The program will culminate with a book-sharing celebration and BBQ with the students and their families. Applications are due by June 2, 2019. Download a flyer.
