Scholastic Art & Writing Awards

The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards is a national organization recognizing the vision, ingenuity, and talent of our nation’s youth, and provides opportunities for creative teens to be celebrated. Their Special Achievement Awards offer creative teens the chance to win scholarships for their work. Each scholarship offers up to $1,000, and all students in grades 7-12 (ages 13 and up) are eligible to participate. Deadlines vary by region, with the earliest deadline falling on December 1, 2019.

New Settlement's Program for Girls & Young Women

New Settlement's Program for Girls & Young Women offers free arts and leadership classes for girls and young women, aged 11-Young Adult, after-school, evenings and Saturdays. Poetry, Photography and Film workshops start on November 14, 2019. Silence Out Loud meets every Thursday from 6-7:30pm, November 14, 2019 –January 23, 2020, with a performance in late January and possible exhibitions in the spring. Any youth who identifies as a girl, young woman, femme or gender fluid within the appropriate age range may register. See class descriptions for more detail, also available en español.
