Partnership for After School Education

Youth come to programs with needs beyond academic and physical that impact their learning and development.

Staff need to be prepared to deal with social emotional needs with care and skill. This workshop will share strategies for fostering supportive environments that encourage positive social emotional development, learn SEL skills that can be implemented in afterschool programs, and help staff to be mindful of the critical self-reflection that is needed to develop healthy practices.

Mery Diaz, DSW, LCSW

Mery Diaz is Assistant Professor in the Health and Human Services Department at New York City College of Technology/CUNY. She received a master’s degree in social work from Wurzweiler School of Social Work and holds a doctorate in clinical social work from the School of Policy and Practice at the University of Pennsylvania.
