Trish Walsh is executive vice president and chief legal officer (CLO) for Voya Financial (NYSE: VOYA), which helps Americans plan, invest and protect their savings — to get ready to retire better. Serving the financial needs of approximately 13.8 million individual and institutional customers in the United States, Voya is a Fortune 500 company that had $8.5 billion in revenue in 2018. The company had $560 billion in total assets under management and administration as of June 30, 2019.
Walsh, who joined Voya in 2015 as CLO and serves on Voya’s Executive Committee, oversees all aspects of Voya’s Law, Compliance and External Affairs department, serving as an advisor to senior management and the board of directors on legal, compliance, securities and corporate governance matters. In 2018, Walsh also assumed responsibility for Corporate Development and Corporate Audit.
Prior to joining Voya, Ms. Walsh served as deputy general counsel and global chief compliance officer for Cigna, Inc., a global health service company with 88 million customer relationships in 30 countries and $32 billion in annual revenue. She joined Cigna in 2011 as chief counsel for the company’s U.S. businesses.
Previously, she held several leadership roles during her tenure at Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance, serving as senior vice president and deputy general counsel for the company, and, most recently, as senior vice president and chief of staff to the chairman and CEO. Prior to MassMutual, she was an associate at the law firm Cleary, Gottlieb, Steen, and Hamilton in Washington, D.C.
Walsh received her bachelor’s degree from Mount Holyoke College, a master’s degree in public affairs from Princeton University, and a J.D. from Yale Law School. She also serves on the board of the Life Insurance Council of New York (LICONY).
