Afterschool Teacher - COMPASS Programs

Summary

Position Summary: 

Education and Youth Development programs provide after-school learning opportunities to elementary school children. During the school year, we offer homework help, enrichment programs and activities Monday - Friday from 2:30 pm - 6:00 pm. Teachers for the enrichment program are expected to lead a class of 20 students. We open and run holiday camp from 8am-6pm for 13 days per school year when DOE is closed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree required, ** Bachelor’s Degree in Education field a plus.
  • Experience working with children and youth; must enjoy working with children.
  • Must be flexible to work across all afterschool programs to provide coverage when needed.
  • Computer savvy in applications, video conferencing, and responding to emails.
  • Background check with NYC and NYS Department of Health and NYC Department of Education

*Note: On a case-by-case basis, exceptions may be made for candidates lacking a bachelor’s degree who meet one of the following qualifications:

  1. possess at least 3 years’ experience working in a key educational role with DOE with confirmed verification of this experience and ability from the principal of the associated school
  2. have earned at least 30 credits in childhood education at an accredited college or university
  3. have earned at least 90 credits at an accredited college or university and at least 5 years of teaching experience
  4. Current or former licensed teacher. Background in visual, performing arts or sports coaching a plus.

Duties

  • Implement hands-on multi-sensory and project-based lessons and activities to children, which are provided in the context of academically stimulating lessons based on the thematic curriculum.  
  • Plan lessons for field trips; engage and communicate with parents & guardians;
