Summary

With community residents leading the way, the mission of Cypress Hills Local Development Corporation (CHLDC) is to build a strong, sustainable Cypress Hills/East New York, where youth and adults achieve educational and
economic success, secure healthy and affordable housing, and develop leadership skills to transform their lives and community.

CHLDC seeks an experienced program director to lead its college awareness, access, and retention programs. The programs include a dynamic collection of models designed to effectively meet the needs of the diverse populations in our community.

Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree, and at least 5 years management experience, 
  • Must have significant experience working with adolescents and young adults, 
  • Must have familiarity with college admissions/applications procedures. 
  • Excellent writing skills, communication skills, commitment to youth development and
    racial justice perspective.

Duties

Principal Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Provide primary leadership for all college awareness, access, and retention work at Cypress Hills Local Development Corporation including four models of operation as well as providing oversight and
    technical assistance for college promotion work in other programs.
  • Assume responsibility for all aspects of the four core models, Persistence Services, Early Awareness and the Student Success Center, and Community Schools including ongoing evaluation and development of new initiatives, approaches and elements.
  • Supervise and hire lead program staff, data manager, and PT operations manager. Recruiting, interviewing, and onboarding program directors and line staff (as needed)
  • Co-lead the youth development strategic vision for the programs, aligned with best practices. Provide/arrange training for division staff to understand strategic plan, and monitor the progress of execution toward strategic goals.
  • Increase the public profile of the agency’s college access work by being active in citywide college access community through participation in city and statewide coalitions
  • Track progress toward meeting all outcomes and contractual obligations, and develop and execute action plans to address gaps.
  • Oversee database and participant files, ensuring timely and accurate record keeping.
  • Coordinate high-level partnerships with partner colleges and high schools.
  • Manage external program partners
  • Monitor expenses and assure budget compliance. Manage receipts and usage of division credit card.
  • Represent programs to funders; meet all reporting requirements for funding sources. 
  • Use effective and secure practices in data collection and management to contribute to accurate reporting and project the confidentiality of staff and participant information.
  • Outreach is conducted to inform and educate neighborhood residents on CHLDC programs and services to optimize awareness within the community.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to school reform work
  • Demonstrate commitment to leadership development, community building, and community organizing as strategies for social change.
  • Attend all required division and agency meetings.
  • Complete other assigned duties, as needed
  • Actively participate on agency’s senior management team
  • Provide ongoing training for division staff on college access and success, case management, and youth development.
  • Facilitate monthly training to program directors on management styles, program planning/development, budgeting, record keeping, etc. 
  • Lead and/or coordinate division-wide conversations on race and equity. Train division staff to facilitate equity workshops with colleagues.
  • Manage agency scholarship processes, including creating/updating applications, promoting scholarships/recruiting students, and interviewing
  • Actively participate on community center operations committee, which includes strategic planning and occasionally facilitating trainings for community center staff
  • Manage grant writing for division, including narrative creation for funder reports and proposals. Responding to Requests for Proposals (RFPs), and seeking additional funding sources.
