Group Leader Part-time
Summary
The role and responsibilities of a Group Leader in the Oriental After School Program are crucial in providing a safe, engaging, and enriching environment for students outside of regular school hours (16 hours per week).
Qualifications
- A High School Diploma or HSE, along with 1-2 years of experience in a youth development role, requires an associate’s degree or higher, preferred.
- Must have previous experience working with elementary children in an academic or recreation setting.
- 2-3 years of experience working in a youth development program, such as tutoring, an afterschool program, summer camp, or mentoring, is highly desired.
- Must be able to work M-F, from 2 pm to 6 pm, and an occasional Saturday.
- Dedicated to OAEF’s educational and youth development goals.
- Knowledge of students’ backgrounds, cultures, and communities, and the ability to integrate this knowledge into service delivery.
- Willingness to be trained in the following areas, including, but not limited to, youth development, conflict resolution, youth safety, services for youth with disabilities, and cultural diversity.
- Possess strong written and verbal communication, interpersonal and organizational skills; possess strong classroom and behavior management skills, and demonstrate effective problem-solving techniques.
- Must be able to pass the OCFS and the Department of Education central clearance requirements.
Duties
- Lead homework help sessions and provide homework assistance to students, as well as help prepare students for academic exams; assist with academic activities that support student success.
- Assist in the development of lesson plans for core activities.
- Lead clubs, recreational and enrichment group activities during Free Choice Fridays; provide engaging opportunities for students to explore new interests and ideas.
- Record and maintain student attendance, performance, and activity records, and communicate student progress to students, parents, and the Program Director in a positive manner.
- Supervise transition times to maintain order and ensure safety; assist program staff in maintaining the cleanliness and quality of program materials and the worksite environment.
- Maintain program rules and regulations, and adhere to schoolwide procedures, while always keeping the student’s needs as the highest priority.
- Communicate day-to-day programmatic difficulties, problems, and/or concerns professionally and appropriately.
- Attend all staff meetings and professional development training sessions; participate in bi-weekly staff development meetings.
- Perform other duties and tasks as deemed necessary by the Program Director.
