Summary

The Group Leader plays a vital role in guiding, mentoring, and supervising participants in daily afterschool & Summer activities. This position is ideal for energetic, caring individuals who enjoy working with children and are passionate about helping them reach their full potential. Group Leaders serve as positive role models, ensuring that all participants feel included, valued, and encouraged to learn and grow. The Instructor plays a key role in creating a positive and inclusive environment for participants. Instructors lead academic, enrichment, and recreational activities that spark curiosity, build confidence, and encourage teamwork. This position is ideal for individuals who are passionate about youth development, enjoy hands-on learning, and want to make a meaningful impact in their community. 

Qualifications

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Must have a high school diploma or GED
  • Must be able to pass a background check
  • Must be available to work Monday through Friday, from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM

Duties

Group Leader Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and engage a group of participants in structured and unstructured activities, including homework help, enrichment projects, and physical activity. 
  • Create a welcoming and inclusive environment that promotes respect, cooperation, and kindness. 
  • Assist Instructors/Activity Specialists in implementing lessons. • Support participants’ academic and social development through encouragement, mentorship, and positive reinforcement. 
  • Maintain accurate attendance records and always ensure participant safety.
  • Communicate effectively with program staff and participants.
  • Participate in staff meetings, training, and special events. 
  • Serve as a role model by demonstrating professionalism, empathy, and a commitment to the GRYC’s mission and values.

Instructor Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and facilitate daily activities in areas such as academic support, STEAM, literacy, physical activity, and social-emotional learning. 
  • Maintain a safe, organized, and welcoming classroom or activity space. 
  • Support participants’ academic growth through homework help, tutoring, and engaging learning strategies.
  • Build positive relationships with participants that foster respect, responsibility, and self-esteem.
  • Collaborate with the Program Director, Content Specialist and fellow staff to create a cohesive and dynamic program environment. 
  • Communicate regularly with the Program Director regarding attendance, behavior, and student progress. 
  • Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and community events.
  • Serve as a positive role model, demonstrating professionalism, empathy, and enthusiasm.
