Outreach and Engagement Specialist

Summary

The Assertive Community Engagement & Success (ACES) program seeks a community engagement and outreach specialist that can support the program in building and maintain strategic relationships with community stakeholders to increase the awareness of the ACES program. ACES is a program serving young men ages 16-24 residing in East Harlem or the South Bronx who may not have started but can strive to overcome threatening environments and system-involvement to find the path to success. These young people will be engaged in high-risk behaviors and voluntarily engage with the ACES program. 

We are looking for skilled team members who can envision a model based on the theory that young people regardless of roadblocks; violence, trauma, gangs, racism, incarceration, truancy, and unemployment. Can engage in positive relationships to change behaviors and acquire life, education, and employment skills.

Qualifications

  • 2 years + of experience in community outreach, engagement or youth services
  • Strong experience and knowledge of local community resources and stakeholder
  • landscape
  • Excellent communication, public speaking, and relationship-building skills
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, and weekends to attend community meetings and events
  • Valid driver's license required, as staff in this role must be able to travel throughout the community, accompany participants related and community-based activities, and support outreach, engagement, and even participation in the field

Duties

  • Develop and maintain partnerships with community-based organizations, schools, and local agencies
  • Serve as the program's representative at community board meetings, resource faits, and public events
  • Build trust with community members and stakeholders to strengthen referral pipelines 
  • Plan, coordinate, and execute community engagement and outreach initiatives, including resource fairs, public events, and partnership-building activities that increase awareness of the ACES program and deepen its integration within the communities it serves 
  • Maintain communication with staff regarding outreach efforts, event participation, and community engagement updates 
  • Maintain up-to-date documentation in databases and trackers when necessary 
  • Maintain ongoing communication with partners 
  • Participate in professional development training to better equip yourself to support the program and participants 
  • Support transportation and field-based participation in program activities in accordance with operational needs
