St. Nicks Alliance, a North Brooklyn based community organization, seeks to transform lives of low- and moderate-income people through employment, education, housing, elder care and social services. We do this by delivering impactful services with measurable outcomes to children, adults, and the elderly. As a civic anchor, we carry out this mission within the context of building a sustainable community for all people through the arts, environmental advocacy, and urban planning.

About the Opportunity: We are seeking passionate and creative Pre-K and Afterschool Group Leaders to design and lead engaging activities for young learners during three-hour afternoon sessions.

About Youth and Education

Established in 1994, St. Nicks Alliance’s Youth and Education division serves more than 6,000 young people across North Brooklyn each year. Through a wide range of dynamic programs, we empower children and youth to successfully navigate each stage of their education and transition into young adulthood equipped with the core competencies needed to thrive.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required: currently working toward a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential and/or an Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education.
• Availability from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM, Monday–Friday (approximately 16 hours per week).
• Interest and experience in youth development and academic enrichment, including areas such as math, science, leadership, English Language Arts (reading/writing), financial literacy, or technology.
• Knowledge, or skills in one or more of the following areas is a plus: sports, recreational activities (e.g., cooking, sewing, knitting, jewelry making), and/or the arts (e.g., dance, music, drama).
• Strong communication skills and the ability to interact respectfully and effectively with a diverse range of individuals, including school staff and families.
• Ability to meet School-Age Child Care (SACC) requirements, including passing a background check and obtaining medical clearance.
• Effective communication skills that foster cooperation, respect, openness, and a willingness to adapt to change.
• Team player with the ability to collaborate effectively with others.
• Preferred Attributes
• Bilingual skills are a plus but not required.
• At least one year of childcare experience is highly preferred.

Duties

• Implement a structured afterschool schedule, lessons, and activities that are developmentally appropriate and tailored to the needs of Pre-K children.
• Deliver early learning experiences that foster growth in key areas, including social-emotional development, literacy, science, language, STEM, physical education, and the arts. Activities may include snack time, meeting time, reading aloud, singing, center-based learning, gross motor activities (e.g., dance or playground time), and creative arts such as painting.
  Support each child's development in ways that are sensitive to their age, abilities, and individual learning stages.
• Serve as a positive role model by consistently demonstrating professional language, behavior, and attitudes.
• Actively participate in ongoing training and professional development opportunities.
• Actively monitor and engage with participants during all program activities, including meals, transitions, field trips, clubs, recreational activities, and dismissal.
• Ensure a safe, supportive, and structured environment by always maintaining active supervision and positive interactions.
• Collaboration and Relationship Building
• Build positive, caring relationships with young people and their families to support each child’s development and well-being.
• Collaborate closely with coworkers and program supervisors to ensure effective program operations and uphold all safety standards and procedures.
