Summary

Splat Lab is seeking a reliable, energetic After School Program Coordinator to help oversee enrichment programming at an elementary school in Jamaica, Queens.
This is a hands-on, part-time leadership role for someone who enjoys working with younger children, supporting a team, and ensuring our workshops run smoothly.
Splat Lab has spent years developing and refining our programming through after-school workshops, school residencies, and summer camps. You won't be expected to create a curriculum from scratch. Your role is to support our Teaching Artists in delivering our curriculum and make sure students have a fun, engaging, well-organized experience every day

Qualifications

  • One year of experience teaching or working with youth, ideally with elementary-aged students
  • Demonstrated experience supervising a team and/or coordinating projects
  • Commitment to youth development and positive discipline practices

Duties

CORE COMPETENCIES

At least one year working with youth in some capacity, whether in schools, community-based organizations, or other settings

  • Excellent punctuality and professionalism in all communication and interactions with staff, students, and community
  • Knowledge of best practices in youth development. Experience in museum education, teaching artistry, or art/ drama therapy highly desired. 
  • Strong ability to engage with electronic student rosters and family registration software
  • Strong communication skills to coordinate with our off-site admin team, as well as liaise with school community, staff, and parents 
  • Desire to grow supervision skills, including scheduling, managing, and providing feedback to staff 
  • Must be available 5 days per week from 2:30pm  to 6pm November-June

PROGRAM LEADERSHIP

  • Oversee the day-to-day implementation of Splat Lab's after-school enrichment.
  • Help ensure programming runs smoothly from student arrival through dismissal.
  • Support transitions between activities, classrooms, snack, cleanup, and other daily routines.
  • Be a visible, positive presence for students and staff.
  • Jump in wherever needed to keep the program running smoothly.
  • Help maintain a safe, welcoming, and engaging environment for students.

STAFF MANAGEMENT & SUPPORT

  • Oversee and support a small team of Splat Lab Teaching Artists.
  • Make sure Teaching Artists are prepared with the materials and information they need.
  • Help staff follow Splat Lab lesson plans, routines, and program expectations.
  • Provide guidance and real-time support when staff need help managing a group or activity.
  • Help create a collaborative and positive team environment.
  • Communicate staffing or performance concerns to the Splat Lab operations team.

PROGRAM IMPLEMENTATION

  • Collaborate with the schools' dedicated after-school staff and routines to ensure Splat Lab workshops are implemented at the highest level
  • Prepare and organize program materials using Splat Lab's existing systems.
  • Ensure activities are appropriate for the age group and adapted when needed.
  • Help maintain the quality and consistency of programming across the school year.
  • Bring Splat Lab's approach to hands-on, experiential, creative learning to the program every day.

SCHOOL & FAMILY COMMUNICATION

  • Serve as the primary day-to-day Splat Lab contact for onsite school staff.
  • Build a positive working relationship with school administrators and staff.
  • Communicate important program updates, schedule changes, student needs.
  • Problem-solve behavior issues in collaboration with school staff and families
