SEL & Wellness Coach
Summary
Position Overview:
HEAF is seeking a compassionate, energetic, and organized SEL & Wellness Coach to lead and support the social-emotional learning (SEL), wellness, and family engagement components of our 2025 Summer Quest program. This role is essential in ensuring that students and families feel emotionally supported, connected, and empowered throughout their summer experience.
The SEL & Wellness Coach will lead and coordinate team-building and wellness activities, conduct student and family wellness check-ins, facilitate a dynamic parent engagement workshop, and collaborate closely with instructional staff to embed SEL practices across the program. This position reports to the Director of Community Wellness Initiatives and will receive task supervision from the Director of Curriculum Design and Learning as needed.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Counseling, Education, Psychology, or a related field.
- Strong understanding of SEL frameworks, trauma-informed care, and child/adolescent development.
- Experience working with youth and families in educational, clinical, or community settings.
- Skilled in group facilitation and delivering interactive wellness activities.
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills and a compassionate, strengths-based approach.
- Highly organized, proactive, and comfortable managing multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Bilingual (Spanish/English) a plus.
Duties
- Build strong, trust-based relationships with middle and high school students, parents and families.
- Facilitate daily SEL-themed team-building activities that promote emotional expression, positive group dynamics, growth mindset, and confidence.
- Conduct mental health and wellness check-ins with a caseload of students; offer optional wellness support sessions for families.
- Help implement SEL & wellness-focused strategies during classroom sessions in collaboration with program facilitators.
- Coordinate and implement wellness workshops, such as yoga, meditation, and self-love art activities that support mindfulness and emotional well-being.
- Serve as a bridge between students, staff, and families—fostering open communication, emotional safety, and an inclusive community.
- Support and reinforce positive behavior management and emotional regulation techniques.
- Co-develop and co-facilitate a Parent Workshop on Math Engagement, integrating SEL strategies to help families support math learning at home.
- Design a family-friendly take-home guide that includes math learning tips, growth mindset and other SEL strategies, and curated resource links to continue to reinforce learning at home.
- Encourage family participation in weekly cultural immersion field trips, class sessions, wellness workshops and check-ins.
- Connect students and families to relevant community-based mental health and social services as needed.
- Assist with daily materials prep, classroom setup, and chaperoning field trips.
- Support the implementation of wellness strategies across learning spaces.
- Support the Community Wellness team in preparing for fall programming, which may include assisting with planning, content development, outreach materials, and logistics for upcoming wellness initiatives and workshops.
- Maintain accurate case notes and documentation of student check-ins and wellness sessions.
- Track participation and engagement metrics to support program evaluation.
- Assist with compiling qualitative and quantitative SEL and Wellness observations for final reporting.
