Summary
The part-time Senior Group Leader provides advanced supervision and leadership for program participants. They also facilitate activities, serve as a peer mentor to Group Leaders and Counselors, design and execute high-quality daily lesson plans, lead specialized enrichment activities, and assist site management with daily operational logistics. The Senior Group Leader works closely with the Program Director and Educational Specialist to model positive youth development practices, maintain regulatory compliance, and ensure a safe, engaging program environment in compliance with Urban Strategies and contracted federal, state, and city agencies.
Qualifications
- Education: Minimum High School Diploma or HSE required. Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Education, Human Services, or related field preferred.
- Age: Minimum 21 years of age.
- Experience: Minimum 2–3 years of direct experience working with youth in a structured after-school, school, or community-based program. Leadership and management experience required.
- Clearances: Must pass all mandatory NYC/NYS background clearances before hire, including OCFS Fingerprinting, NYS Statewide Central Register (SCR) Child Abuse screening, Sex Offender Registry check, and Medical/Tuberculosis (TB) clearance.
- Technical & Soft Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), Outlook, OneDrive, and Google Workspace preferred. Strong active listening, conflict resolution, interpersonal, communication, organizational, and leadership skills; strong classroom management; ability to multitask and lead team members effectively with minimal supervision. Prompt, patient, empathetic, and adaptable with a strong commitment to positive youth development.
Duties
- Advanced Supervision & Group Management: Lead student groups and maintain active supervision, physical safety, and positive behavioral support across all program areas.
- Curriculum Design & Facilitation: Plan, develop, and execute age-appropriate lesson plans, project-based learning units, and enrichment activities, including leadership development, STEAM, and recreation.
- Peer Leadership & Mentorship: Serve as a lead staff member by guiding Group Leaders and Counselors. Model effective classroom management and support daily activity transitions.
- Operational & Administrative Support: Assist the Program Director with daily attendance tracking, data entry requirements, activity scheduling, and supply management.
- Arrival, Dismissal & Transitions: Coordinate organized, secure arrival and dismissal routines. Ensure proper sign-in/sign-out procedures and compliance.
- Safety & Regulatory Readiness: Enforce emergency, health, and safety protocols. Maintain clean, hazard-free activity spaces.
- Family & School Engagement: Build positive, professional relationships with parents, school personnel, and community stakeholders during pick-up and program events.
- Professional Development: Participate in staff and organization meetings, orientations, and required professional development trainings.
- Management may assign additional duties as needed.
