Summary
Reporting directly to the Campus Director and Assistant Director, the Summer Group Leader is primarily responsible for the supervision and safety of program participants for various levels of activities, including but not limited to physical enrichment, arts and crafts and mealtimes. Group Leaders will also serve as liaisons for the program and participants to ensure adequate safety. Responsibilities also include ensuring that the program environment is safe, clean and appropriate for program activities. It is ideal for Group Leaders to be proficient in a variety of areas such as Literacy, STEAM, Crafts and Leadership.
This position will be a part of our Youth and Immigrant Services Division offered at Sunnyside Community Services inc., which includes a pre-kindergarten program, multiple after-school programs for elementary and middle school youth, college and career readiness for HS aged youth, and adult & immigrant services.
Qualifications
- Must be 18 years old or older by the time of hire, ability to pass a comprehensive background check.
- Must be available M-F during program hours through August 15th.
- Ability to work in person – remote options are not available.
- High School Diploma, some college of relevant degree preferred.
- Moderate organizational and communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
- Experience working with children in an after school or summer camp setting strongly encouraged.
- This position begins the last week of June through August after clearances are completed.
Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:00am-6:00pm, schedules may vary

Duties
- Ensure the safety of all program participants through supervision and creating safe/nurturing environments, including daily attendance tracking.
- Assist in the completion of participant activities throughout the day.
- Develop age-appropriate recreational lesson plans to match participant need and be submitted promptly.
- Assist in the preparation of material and examples in advance for student understanding during activities.
- Assist with the planning and preparation of special events, trips and projects.
- Meet regularly with supervisors and other staff members to share best practices and address challenges.
- Attend all required meetings and training courses
- Maintain the sanitization of the program space and ensure program supplies are well organized, cleaned and in good condition.
- Ensuring health and safety protocols/ policies are maintained, document all medical and behavioral incidents.
- Other responsibilities as assigned
