Summer Instructor PS 343

Summary

Reporting directly to the Campus Director and Assistant Director, Summer Instructors are primarily responsible for planning and instructing various levels of activities, including tailoring curriculum for specific classroom needs. Summer Instructors should be proficient in a variety of areas such as Literacy, STEAM, Crafts and Leadership. 

This position will be a part of our Youth and Family Services Division offered at Sunnyside Community Services inc., which includes a pre-kindergarten program, multiple after-school programs for elementary and middle school youth, college and career readiness for HS aged youth, and adult & immigrant services. 

 

Qualifications

  • Must be 18 years old or older 
  • Must be available M-F during program hours through August 18th. 
  • High School Diploma, some college of relevant degree preferred. 
  • Instructional experience with a minimum of two years’ experience in an afterschool and Summer Rising environment. 
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines. 
  • This position begins in September after clearances are completed. Afterschool staff are expected to be committed to the position until the end of the school year in June.  

Duties

  • Supervise a group of Participants along with the additional Summer Instructors and provide for the safety and well-being of participants. 
  • Ensure the completion of participant assignments. 
  • Tailor curriculum for each level of instruction to match student needs. Develop age-appropriate lesson plans to be submitted promptly. 
  • Prepare material and examples in advance for student understanding during activities. 
  • Assist with the planning and preparation of special events and projects. 
  • Meet regularly with supervisors and other staff members to share best practices and address challenges. 
  • Maintain the sanitization of program space and ensure program supplies are well organized, cleaned and in good condition. 
  • Ensuring Health and safety protocols/ policies are maintained. 
Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:00am-6:00pm, schedules may vary
