America After 3PM: Afterschool Programs in Demand
The Afterschool Alliance recently released America After 3PM: Afterschool Programs in Demand, a report on a survey of parents and guardians nationwide that found a jump in reported participation in afterschool in the U.S. over the last decade. Approximately 18% of children nationwide took part in an afterschool program in 2014 — equivalent to about 10.2 million children, and compared to 15% in 2009 and 11% in 2004. At the same time, unmet demand for afterschool programming is large. The report also includes findings on summer learning programming.
