The Fellowship Initiative in Context: Applying a Positive Youth Development Framework

The Urban Institute released a new brief, The Fellowship Initiative in Context: Applying a Positive Youth Development Framework. The Fellowship Initiative (TFI) is a multiyear program developed by JPMorgan Chase to expand opportunities for African American, Latino, and other young men of color. Students apply when they are in the 9th grade; programming begins the summer before their sophomore year and extends through the summer before they enter college. TFI fellows also receive support throughout college. The brief summarizes TFI’s theoretical underpinnings, the activities and supports it provides, and how it compares with other programs and initiatives aimed at helping young people access and succeed in college.
