The Starling Collective resources

GivingTuesday’s Starling Collective is a new kind of learning collective for grassroots leaders to discover and share best practices for increasing generosity and driving systems change. The program offers coaching, peer learning, and connection to GivingTuesday’s global leader network, as well as microgrants to jumpstart or accelerate on-the-ground work. The deadline to apply is September 1, 2021.

2022 Power of 3:00 Ambassadors Program

The Power of 3:00 Ambassador program offers participants the opportunity to channel their passion for afterschool, summer, and expanded learning programs through advocacy. The program hosts passionate afterschool, summer, and expanded learning providers and supporters from across New York State to work directly with staff from the Network’s Policy Department to develop the advocacy and media skills to become effective advocates for the youth they serve. Applications are due December 3, 2021 at 5:00 PM.

Afterschool as a Teacher Pathway

The most recent How Kids Learn Speaker's Forum covered Afterschool as a Teacher Pathway. The purpose of the webinar was to inform and encourage OST leaders on how best to develop/join and promote an afterschool to teacher pathway while they captured and shared valuable and intriguing ideas from educational and OST leaders. The recording of that session is now available along with the slide deck that was shared during the presentation.

2021 Summer Changes Everything National Conference

The National Summer Learning Association recently held its 2021 Summer Changes Everything National Conference. The plenary sessions from that conference can now be found on their YouTube channel. The sessions include panels and conversations covering Leaning into Leadership, Lessons Learned and the Light of Covid, Seizing this Watershed Moment in Education, and The Future of Equity-Centric Philanthropy and Systemic Transformation.

STEM Family Engagement Planning Tool

STEM Next has partnered with Drs. Patty Allen and Gil Noam of the Institute for the Study of Resilience in Youth (ISRY) at McLean Hospital and Harvard Medical School to create the STEM Family Engagement Planning Tool. This Planning Tool introduces a new framework for family engagement in STEM known as CARE: Connect, Act, Reflect, and Empower. CARE is a simple way of organizing ideas from research and practice to provide a shared and equitable vision for family engagement in STEM.

Youth Services Workforce Survey

The Campaign for Children (C4C) seeks responses from youth-facing professionals across the city to understand staffing challenges in delivering programming for the 2021-2022 school year. Their 5-minute survey will inform C4C's advocacy goals in addition to previous feedback already shared from their direct service colleagues.

Hurricane Ida Disaster Relief Fund

The Hurricane Ida Disaster Relief Fund is being managed by the NYS Office for New Americans to assist undocumented individuals from the 5 NYC Boroughs, Suffolk, Westchester, and Rockland. Chinese-American Planning Council Brooklyn Community Services has partnered with ONA to provide information, assistance, and help for residents who were impacted by the storm. Summer Rising STEM Program Guide

The NYC STEM Education Network has compiled a Summer Rising STEM Program Guide to assist Principals and CBO Site Directors as they plan for Summer Rising. The Program Guide includes enrichment programs, field trips, professional development, curriculum, and other opportunities for students and educators in all grade levels. The guide is intended to be a living resource. If you would like to add offerings, please complete this survey.

Breakthrough New York's (BTNY) College and Career Success Program (CCSP) works with students to navigate complex systems and barriers to successful college graduation and meaningful employment. They are accepting applications for BTNY College & Career Success Coaches, who will be at the front lines of providing guidance through monthly Coach Talks and ongoing relationship building. Their vision is to empower student leaders who excel academically and chart their careers successfully.
