Every Hour Counts Ten-Year Convening Report

Every Hour Counts has published a report with lessons from ten years in the expanded-learning field and insights for the future. Funders and practitioners came together in December 2015 to reflect on the state of the field and begin to chart a course for the future. The Every Hour Counts Ten-Year Convening Report outlines this discussion and vision. Discover what leaders say about: resolving issues of inequity; recognizing social and emotional learning as a unifying force for schools and communities; taking advantage of summer learning; and creating happy schools.

Graduate NYC – The Last Five Years

In its first of three briefs, The Last Five Years, Graduate NYC (GNYC) details how New York City has seen gains in each of the 2020 goal categories related to college readiness, college enrollment, and college degree completion among DOE and CUNY students. Through the release of this report, GNYC aims to focus attention on key indicators of college readiness, access, and success to better understand where progress is being made and where gaps remain. The second brief in this series, Readiness & Enrollment, will be available on June 21. The third and final brief in this series, Degree Completion, will be released on June 28.

Workshops from Mentor New York

Mentor New York is offering four workshops for members of the STEM Education Network and any youth development worker. The workshops will run from 10:00 am – 12:00 pm over the course of the summer. Specialists from Mentor New York as well as members of the STEM Education Network will share their expertise. Topics include: Recruiting (June 22), Screening (July 14), Building Mentoring Relationships (August 9), and Retention (September 15). DOT Safety Education and Outreach Free Summer Safety Workshops

The NYC Department of Transportation Office of Safety Education and Outreach is offering NYC summer camps free safety education workshops for students ages 6-14. Experienced educators will lead discussions and hands-on activities, giving students the confidence and knowledge to get around safely. NYC Nonprofits Opportunity for New Website at No Cost

48in48, an Atlanta-based nonprofit, will host a hackathon this November 2016. They will join forces with local agencies and individual professionals from both the marketing and technology industry to build 48 websites for 48 nonprofits. Nonprofits with operating budgets of $3 million or less are eligible to apply to. More information and the online application can be found on the newyork.48in48.org/nonprofit website. Advanced Certificate in Youth Studies from CUNY

CUNY School for Professional Studies is offering a 12-credit, Advanced Certificate in Youth Studies. Youth Studies provides an opportunity to deepen one's understanding of the relationship of youth and society through critical thinking, research and writing. Via support from the Department of Youth and Community Development and the JFK Jr. Institute for Worker Education, scholarships will pay for half of the required classes. The certificate aligns with the first four courses of the MA in Youth Studies awaiting approval for Spring 2017. Application deadline for the program is July 27, 2016 and scholarship applications are due on July 15, 2016.

Free Summer Arts & Leadership Programs for Girls & Young Women in the Bronx

New Settlement Apartments is offering opportunities this summer for girls and young women ages 10-15, including Project V.I.P. (Voice, Identity, Power), a dramatic writing and performance ensemble, a summer leadership sports academy, photography, comics, healthy decision-making, and cycling. Programs are offered in partnership with PowerPlay NYC, Bike New York, and Bronx Lebanon Hospital Center. Programs may be combined or taken separately. Summer session runs July 5 - August 12, 2016 at 1525 Townsend Avenue, Bronx, NY. Orientation is on June 22, 2016 at 6:00 pm. Educational Talent Search Program - Free Summer Programs

Educational Talent Search Program (ETSP) at John Jay College is recruiting current 7th and 8th graders for their free Summer Enrichment Program and 9th graders for their Summer Math class. Summer programming for 7th and 8th graders includes Math, English, Computer Science, Swimming, and Dance. Programs run July 5 - 28, 2016. Complete the Summer Enrichment application or the Math application to apply. Deadline to apply is June 24, 2016.
