Billion Oyster Project Fellowship

The Billion Oyster Project STEM Collaboratory: Curriculum and Community Enterprise for Restoration Science Fellowship at Pace University is a two-year professional development program that trains classroom teachers and afterschool educators to engage their students in hands-on environmental science and restoration ecology in and around New York Harbor. The Fellowship is open to all NYC Department of Education middle school teachers with a preference for those working in program-wide Title I-funded schools and afterschool and summer camp educators working in DYCD funded programs. The program offers both a stipend for individual participants and supplementary funding for schools and programs. Teachers and educators who are accepted into the program will be provided a per session stipend of $50/hour for every event they attend, including scientist workshops, curriculum PDs, and hands-on field trainings. Application deadline is December 1, 2016 at 5:00 pm.

Free Online Programs from charitySTRONG on Board Development

charitySTRONG is a new organization dedicated to helping New York State nonprofits develop their boards of directors. The organizations offers two, free online programs, onBOARD and Directors U. onBOARD matches individuals who are interested in board service with charitable organizations that are seeking board members. Directors U includes governance training courses and resources on board development, operations, and legal requirements. charitySTRONG is open to all state registered public charities and encourages participation by individuals who have never served on a nonprofit board as well as experienced board members looking for new opportunities to help their communities. Middle School SEL Resource: #trending

#trending by Youth Communication is a fun, youth-centered resource that is engaging for middle schoolers, easy-to-use for staff, and supports literacy and social and emotional learning. It includes 36 true stories by teens with session plans on themes such as "Friendships That Matter," "Success In School," "Challenging Stereotypes," and "From Bystanders to Allies."
