Watching Gender: How Stereotypes in Movies and on TV Impact Kids' Development

Join Common Sense and Makers for a panel and the release of a groundbreaking new research report - Watching Gender: How Stereotypes in Movies and on TV Impact Kids' Development on June 20, 2017 from 4:30 pm 6:30 pm. In today's 24/7 media world, children are flooded with messages about how they should look, talk, and act. Television and movies play a powerful role in framing their sense of what's "acceptable" and what isn't. The panel discussion will explore how media affects children's gender-related beliefs, knowledge, and behaviors and will introduce an innovative assessment tool to evaluate media through a lens of gender awareness and child development. This is a free event but space is limited. Preregistration is required. Questions? Contact Tali Horowitz at 212-315-2674 or thorowitz@commonsense.org.
