Grounded Program Design: Taking Social Justice Work from Values to Practice

On October 12, 2018, Seachange Collective is hosting an interactive, 1-day workshop, Grounded Program Design: Taking Social Justice Work from Values to Practice, on "grounded program design," the development and implementation of initiatives based in community needs and justice – rather than assumed knowledge and charity. Facilitators will guide participants in reflecting on their experiences, the steps of grounded program design, and the complexities of social justice practice. Each participant will workshop their own real-life examples and develop personalized, practical steps to align their social justice values with their work. Register by August 31, 2018 to take advantage of an early bird discount.

Union College’s Multicultural Visit Program

Union College is hosting an overnight college preview program, October 21 - 22, 2018, for high-achieving students from diverse backgrounds. This program is designed to allow students to learn more about Union's academic offerings; give them an authentic view of what life can be like at Union; and provide opportunities to engage with current students, faculty, and administrators. The entire cost of the trip, including transportation and meals, will be covered. Applications are due September 24, 2018.

Online College Advisement Course from Teacher's College

Teachers College (TC), Columbia University’s Continuing Professional Studies program is offering an online continuing education course for high school counselors and other educators who would like to deepen their understanding and gain specialized training in college advisement with a special emphasis on high-performing, low-income students. The TC College Advising Program (CAP) course runs September 10 - December 17, 2018. There is a fee to participate. Visit the TC CAP web page to learn more and register.

Lights On Afterschool 2018

Lights On Afterschool (LOA) is on October 25, 2018. LOA is a nationwide event organized by the Afterschool Alliance that draws attention to the many ways afterschool programs support students by offering them opportunities to learn new things—such as science, community service, robotics, Tae Kwon Do, and poetry—and discover new skills. Carnegie Hall NeON Arts Grants

NeON Arts is a project of the New York City Department of Probation in partnership with Carnegie Hall. This fall and winter, NeON Arts is seeking artists and arts organizations to implement projects in seven neighborhoods across New York City to engage youth and community members. The program provides up to $15,000 in funding for dance, music, theater, visual arts, poetry, and digital media projects in the South Bronx, Brownsville, Staten Island, East New York, Jamaica, Harlem, and Bedford-Stuyvesant. 2018 Rochester Regional Training Institute

Registration is now open for the New York State Network for Youth Success' 2018 Rochester Regional Training Institute taking place on November 10, 2018. The institute is appropriate for supervisors, teachers, and frontline staff working with school-age children and includes the opportunity to complete six OCFS training hours via a variety of topics, a buffet lunch, and networking opportunities.
