Queens World Film Festival

The 13th Annual Queens World Film Festival is set to run at the Museum of the Moving Image and Kaufman Astoria Studios, from April 16, 2024 - April 28, 2024. The festival will feature 152 films from 19 nations, with 67 films from metro New York, including films from all 5 Boroughs. The festival is curated in thematic blocs with films grouped together for specific cinematic experiences, guaranteeing that they have something for everyone. Check out the films or the blocs. Go For Broke: Visions of New Solidarities

Join the CUNY SPS Youth Studies community on April 4, 2024, at 6:30pm for a radical community dialogue grounded in Elizabeth Bishop’s recent book, Whiting Out: Writing on Vulnerability, Racism and Repair. The evening features scholar-activists Wendy Barrales, Damaris Dunn, and CUNY SPS Academic Director of Youth Studies, Sarah Zeller-Berkman, in conversation with Dr. Bishop, for a dynamic discussion on critical youth development. Registration is now open.

DYCD Community Moms & Dads 2024

The NYC Department of Youth & Community Development (DYCD) invites you to join them in honoring moms and dads this June by nominating a "Community Mom" or “Community Dad” for their award. This award recognizes community moms and dads—whether volunteers, mentors, teachers, community leaders, healthcare staff, essential workers, caregivers, aunts, uncles, sisters, or brothers — who dedicate their time and energy to the physical, social, and emotional well-being of the city. The deadline to submit a nomination is March 13, 2024.

6th CUNY Neurodiversity Conference

CUNY Disability Programs, part of the Central Office of Student Inclusion, is hosting the 6th CUNY Neurodiversity Conference. The conference will be held in a hybrid format, with virtual sessions being hosted on April 5, 2024, and in-person sessions taking place on April 19, 2024. They are inviting stakeholders in the field to share research, programming, stories and experiential opportunities that address and support mental health as it relates to neurodiversity. The conference will be a safer space for individuals and organizations to share, explore, and reflect on strategies and best practices for addressing mental health. The deadline to submit a proposal is February 21, 2024

See Me Because, Volume 12 Exhibition and Opening Reception

Art Start and the Center for Community Alternatives are hosting an exhibition and opening reception for See Me Because, Volume 12 on January 31, 2024 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM. The exhibition is the culmination of a three-month collaboration with system-impacted youth to explore and express their voices through the artistic process. Their exhibition and subsequent publication will represent a collection of their portraits, creative works and words, offering a space to express who they are beneath and beyond system involvement. Registration is now open.
