Middle School Guided Search from InsideSchools

InsideSchools' new middle school guided search allows parents to see all the schools for which their child is eligible, taking into account their age, home address, home language, disability status, and willingness to take a “gifted” exam or audition. InsideSchools is a project of the Center for New York City Affairs at The New School that provides independent information about New York City's public schools.

New York Hall of Science STEM Career Expo

The New York Hall of Science (NYSCI) is hosting its largest free youth event of the year, STEM Career Expo, on May 17, 2019. The event includes over 35 partner organizations and is a great way for students, grades 6 through college, to explore different career and educational pathways within STEM through networking with professionals and university representatives, engaging in fun hands-on STEM activities, and signing up for internship and leadership programs. Sound Thinking NYC Career and College Exposition

The Sound Thinking NYC (STNYC) Career and College Exposition is a free event on June 19, 2019, hosted by the CUNY Creative Arts Team and the Mayor's Office of Media and Entertainment, in partnership with NY is Music. The STNYC Expo invites middle and high school students to explore how to turn a passion for music into a possible college and career path, especially in music production. The Expo will spotlight NYC’s vibrant music scene, music/arts organizations, and educational institutions. The event is open to all NYC students, families, and school groups. RSVP to attend. Request for Proposals from Unleashed

Unleashed, a leadership development program for middle school-aged girls, has released a request for proposals (RFP) for a one-time $24,000 grant in honor of the founder, Dr. Stacy Radin. Eligible organizations must be currently serving girls, preferably an adolescent population, from low and middle income communities, in the NYC metropolitan area, and most have a similar mission and purpose as Unleashed. Summer Workshop for Teen Writers

Youth Communication's annual summer writing workshop for New York City youth, ages 15 - 20, takes place July 8 - August 15, 2019. Participants will get one-on-one mentoring from a professional editor, write personal stories about their life, go on field trips, and make friends with other writers. Participant stories will be published in one of Youth Communication's two award-winning magazines: YCteen, by and for New York City high school students, or Represent, by and for young people in foster care. Youth Communication offers a stipend of $600, plus daily MetroCard and $10 for lunch. Application deadline is May 17, 2019.
