Octavia Project Free Summer Institute 2021

Applications are now open for the Octavia Project's 2021 Summer Institute. This free six week program is open to young women, non-binary, and trans youth between the ages of 14-18 to bridge their love of science fiction, writing, art and technology. Workshops will run from July 5, 2021 - August 12, 2021 in Brooklyn. If safety regulations do not allow for in-person programming, they will hold a hybrid or virtual institute for summer 2021. The early application deadline is April 3, 2021 after which they will be reviewing applications on a rolling basis until May 15, 2021.

Awards for Youth in Foster Care

Youth Communication sponsors The Awards for Youth in Foster Care to illuminate the strengths of New York City foster youth among agency staff, youth workers, and the general public. Ten young people will be awarded prize money at a ceremony in fall 2021, ideally in person. The prize money can be spent however the winner likes, although it is recommended that it be spent on education-related activities. Any current or former foster youth in the New York City foster care system who was born in 2000 or later can be nominated by any adult (including teachers, mentors, agency staff, youth workers, religious leaders, foster parents, and biological parents). Your complete entry, including the entry form, two essays, and adult recommendation letter, must be submitted or postmarked by May 15, 2021. Learn more and apply.

Students for Equitable Education (SEE) Summit

In partnership with nine school districts, Digital Promise is hosting the Students for Equitable Education (SEE) Summit, a free, national social justice summit envisioned and led by students across the country. The SEE Summit will radically cede power to young people; call on educators to face the racist, demoralizing structures, policies, and practices that exist in education; strengthen dialogue and collaboration between students and school staff; and spur a collective commitment to advance inclusive, anti-racist classrooms. The event will take place on April 24, 2021 from 11:00 AM - 3:00 PM. Registration is now open.

I C the Future: Report backs from Intergenerational Research Teams​

Intergenerational Change Initiative presents, I C the Future: Report backs from Intergenerational Research Teams. Join them on April 7, 2021 from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM as youth and adult researchers from the CUNY SPS Youth Studies Program share back findings related to the experiences of immigrant and refugee youth and families during COVID-19. Also, results from ICI’s Youth Ask Youth census about the experiences, desires, and dreams of New Yorkers ages 13-24 in relation to Economics, Community, Learning, Health & Relationships, COVID-19, and Policing. Registration is now open.

The NSLA's Summer Bootcamp Series provides program leaders with the tools they need at this moment to keep kids healthy, learning, earning, and thriving through this pandemic and beyond. In this series, they dive into strategies to accelerate learning, build critical partnerships, and plan successful programs with evidence-based practices relevant to any scenario of summer plans emerging this season. CUNY SPS Youth Studies Program

CUNY School of Professional Studies' Youth Studies Program equips students with the knowledge and skills needed to design, run, research, and work in youth settings. Through on campus, hybrid, and online coursework, the program provides a sound theoretical grounding and highly applicable skills to its students by integrating crucial areas of study. Applicants who submit their application and meet the April 8, 2021 Fall 2021 Priority Deadline will be able to submit without being required to pay an application fee.
