SEO Scholars

SEO Scholars is a free, eight-year academic and leadership program that gets motivated public high school students to and through college. SEO looks for scholars who will contribute to the program with character, commitment, and grit, and who can also grow academically and professionally. NYC Youth Count

The NYC Youth Count is an annual survey that is part of the citywide effort to determine New Yorkers’ housing situation. The Youth Count will take place from January 25, 2023 through January 27, 2023. During the NYC Youth Count, Runaway and Homeless Youth provider staff and volunteers will ask young people between the ages of 14 through 24 to participate in a short anonymous survey. The count will be conducted during regular business hours at participating youth-serving programs, including emergency shelters, drop-in centers, outreach teams, and other programs. Demographics via Candid

In the past few years, there has been a heightened interest in nonprofit demographic data. However, the result is that nonprofits are asked to collect and report demographic data over and over again in different ways for different funders (meaning more work for already overworked nonprofits). Join Candid on February 14, 2023 at 2:00 PM to learn about Demographics via Candid, an initiative to empower nonprofits to share their demographic data once on their Candid profile on GuideStar, where it can be accessed and reused by funders and stakeholders across the field. The Obama Foundation Leaders USA Program

The Obama Foundation Leaders USA program is a six-month, non-residential leadership development program that seeks to inspire, empower, and connect emerging leaders across the country. They are looking for values-driven changemakers between the ages of 24-45 who are working to create lasting, positive change in the lives of people in their community. Together, leaders will accelerate positive and lasting change in their communities with a focus on strengthening institutions across sectors toward a more inclusive, participatory democracy. The deadline to apply is February 3, 2023.

Child & Family Well-being in New York State

Citizens’ Committee for Children has released a new report, the Child & Family Well-being in New York State (CFWB) index, which underscores the urgent need for state leaders to go further to address the compounding consequences of the pandemic and profound disparities experienced by children and families. Their comprehensive report examines county-level data on economic security, housing stability, health care, education, youth, and families and communities. It importantly draws attention to the status of children and families in all 62 counties in New York, illustrating both where barriers to well-being are concentrated and long-standing inequities that persist across the state.
