Danielle Young

Danielle Young, LCSW, is the director of school-based services for the School and Community Programs team at the Child Mind Institute. Danielle has clinical experience providing psychoeducation, emotional support, advocacy, and crisis intervention to children, adolescents, and families in both community-based and hospital settings.

Before coming to the Child Mind Institute, Danielle worked at Mount Sinai Kravis Children’s Hospital in several roles including the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit and an integrated mental health program within pediatric primary care. She worked closely with a psychiatry team to provide short-term therapy focused on social emotional learning and crisis management using a trauma-focused lens. She taught interpersonal and communication skills as part of the Arts and Sciences of Medicine curriculum in the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. Danielle developed and provided education, support, and programming for staff and families around child loss and grief. She also co-founded an interdisciplinary health equity journal club to promote dialogue around inequities and bias within the medical system and participated in the Icahn School of Medicine’s Racism and Bias Initiative. Additionally, Danielle facilitated wellness sessions for hospital staff using mindfulness, emotional support, and physical grounding techniques during challenging circumstances in the hospital.

In her role as part of the School and Community Programs team, Danielle provides both direct service and professional training. As part of the Mood Service team, she runs groups in schools using a modified Dialectical Behavioral Therapy approach and also offers Mental Health Skill-Building. Additionally, she provides professional training for school staff to empower clinicians to deliver Child Mind interventions independently and expand access to services for students and their families.
