Andrew Rich

Colin Powell School for Civic and Global Leadership, City College of New York

Andrew Rich is the Richard J. Henley and Susan L. Davis Dean of the Colin Powell School for Civic and Global Leadership and Professor of Political Science at The City College of New York (CCNY). The Colin Powell School is home to the social science departments as well as the core leadership development and public service programs at CCNY.

As Dean, Rich has overseen enrollment growth of almost 40 percent in five years. With more than 3,500 students, the Colin Powell School is now CCNY’s largest student division. Rich has spearheaded a range of new student success and academic initiatives, including eight new student fellowship programs, a ten-person Office of Student Success, and the launch of the first new institute at CCNY – Leadership for Democracy and Social Justice – and the first new center at CCNY – the Daniel Patrick Moynihan Center – in more than a decade. Most recently, Rich co-founded the new Social Mobility Lab at CCNY, which aims to advance understanding of how higher education in the United States — and particularly public higher education — expands and accelerates opportunities for students, their families, and the communities from which they come.

From 2011-2019, Rich was Executive Secretary and CEO of the Harry S. Truman Scholarship Foundation, a federal agency that supports young people committed to careers as public service leaders across the United States. From 2009-2011, he was President & CEO of the Roosevelt Institute, a national think tank and leadership development organization based in New York City.

Rich is currently Chair of the Board of Friends of the Truman Foundation, and he is a member of the Board of the Robert Sterling Clark Foundation. Rich received his BA from the University of Richmond and his PhD in political science from Yale University. He lives in New York City with his husband and partner of 29 years.
