Gail Guerre

Brooklyn Children's Theatre

Gail Silvie Guerre is a dedicated education and arts professional who has spent the past twenty years supporting young people and their families through arts education and programming. Throughout her career, Gail has tailored her approach to meet the individual needs of each child, fostering academic and personal development on and off the stage. Her passion for education is matched by her dedication to continuous professional growth and advocacy for underserved communities.

Born in Brooklyn and raised in Queens, Gail is the daughter of Haitian immigrants. Her parents, Mimose and Roosevelt Guerre, profoundly shaped her values and her lifelong passion for education, the arts, and community service. Gail holds degrees in Business Administration and Elementary Education from the City College School of Education and is trained in trauma-informed education. Gail is also the proud mother of two adult children, Janel and Aiden.

Gail’s journey with Brooklyn Children’s Theatre (BCT) began in 2005 through her daughter Janel. While attending a BCT performance in support of a friend, Gail and Janel fell in love with the program. Despite her shyness, Janel tugged at her mother’s shirt and said, “Mommy, I want to do that too.” Thus began a long and meaningful relationship between Gail and the organization.

Gail has served BCT in numerous roles, starting as a proud parent before becoming a Costume Designer, Teaching Artist, Oasis Program Manager, Wardrobe Supervisor, Community Outreach Manager, and Student Support and Operations Coordinator. In these roles, Gail worked with families in Brooklyn homeless shelters and helped families transition from shelters into permanent housing, organizing furniture drives and personally assisting with home setup. She coordinated programming, transportation, and essential supports such as groceries and digital devices for BCT students during the COVID-19 pandemic. She advocated for families navigating immigration challenges, family court, housing court, and school-related issues, all while ensuring her students remained engaged and inspired.

Gail has been integral to the evolution of Brooklyn Children’s Theatre. She believes that BCT does far more than create art—it creates pathways for children who are often overlooked to thrive. Her work continues to center joy, dignity, and access by empowering young people to find their voices, build confidence, and imagine bold futures through arts education.
