A new report by the National Research Council, Education for Life and Work: Developing Transferable Knowledge and Skills in the 21st Century, argues that academic skills and “21st century skills” such as problem-solving, collaboration, and critical thinking are interdependent, and that developing both types of skills together increases students’ chances of achieving future success in the workplace.
