Watching Teachers Work: Using Observation Tools to Promote Effective Teaching in the Early Years and Early Grade

The New America Foundation recently released Watching Teachers Work: Using Observation Tools to Promote Effective Teaching in the Early Years and Early Grades, a report coauthored by Lisa Guernsey, director of the New America Foundation’s Early Education Initiative, and Susan Ochshorn, founder and principal of ECE PolicyWorks LLC. The report argues for improving early education up through the third grade by watching teachers in action using innovative observation tools in combination with evaluation and training programs. It also describes how objective observation could be used to improve teaching across the full education spectrum, PreK-12th grade.
