COSEBOC 10th Annual Gathering of Leaders 2016 Call for Workshop Proposals events

Coalition of Schools Educating Boys of Color (COSEBOC) 10th Annual Gathering of Leaders will be held in New York City on May 18, 2016. In partnership with the New York City Department of Education’s Expanded Success Initiative (ESI) and New York City Mayor’s Office Young Men’s Initiative (YMI), the gathering will provide access to great information about effective practices happening nationally, including the work of the Expanded Success Initiative and the overarching Young Men’s Initiative working together within schools. The COSEBOC is seeking workshop proposals from schools or districts that have an innovative practice that has proven effective for educating boys and young men of color. Proposal submissions are due December 18, 2015 at 11:59 EST

The Peace Corps is offering an online Information Session for Public, Charter and Home School Stakeholders who want to share information with high school students about serving in the Peace Corps on January 31, 2022 from 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM. Serving in the Peace Corps is a great way to immerse oneself in a new culture, learn a new language, and have the experience of a lifetime. School and Community Programs Mental Health Skill-Building

The Child Mind Institute’s School and Community Programs Mental Health Skill-Building curriculum training program is designed to train school staff to teach students a set of evidence-based coping skills that prepare them to effectively regulate emotions, manage thoughts and behaviors, interact effectively with others, and engage in relaxation and mindfulness practices to navigate stressful situations. Racial Justice Commission Public Info Session

The NYC Racial Justice Commission heard New Yorkers’ experiences of injustice and has identified six patterns of inequity that have a harmful impact on Black, Latinx, Indigenous, Asian, Pacific Islander, Middle Eastern, or other Persons of Color (BIPOC). Between now and December 2021, the Commission is working to propose broad, bold, long-term structural changes to the NYC Charter that impact the underlying causes of racial inequity and begin to dismantle structural racism. Join a virtual Public Input Session on November 18, 2021 from 5:00 PM - 8:00 PM, to speak directly to members of the NYC Racial Justice Commission on how they can reflect racial justice, equity, and fairness in the City’s laws. Speaking of Sex: Core Knowledge for Professionals and Educators

Have you ever faced a sexuality-related situation at work and not been sure how to respond? Speaking of Sex is a training series from Planned Parenthood for staff serving youth within Queens Community District 3, which includes East Elmhurst, Jackson Heights, and North Corona. The training series will include twice-weekly 2.5-hour zoom sessions: Tuesdays and Thursday, October 19, 21, 26 and 28, 2021 from 9:30 AM - 12:00 PM. This training series will help participants communicate effectively with young people and their families about sexual and reproductive health. They will discuss sexuality and values, sexual development, gender identity and expression, and more. Participants will leave with tools to articulate the value of sex education, foster an engaging and supportive environment, and handle potentially sensitive topics. Learn more and register today.

Dream.US Scholarship Info Session

CUNY BMCC is hosting an info session for their Dream.US scholarship program on October 26, 2021 at 2:00 PM. In advance of the November launch of the scholarship, this presentation will give practitioners an overview of the application process and identify some of the pitfalls applicants and awardees face. This would be a great opportunity to field questions and concerns specific to students who are Dreamers, regarding entering CUNY or community colleges. In addition, this event will detail BMCC application support and go through checkpoints before a scholar steps into their first class. Registration is now open.

Students for Equitable Education (SEE) Summit

In partnership with nine school districts, Digital Promise is hosting the Students for Equitable Education (SEE) Summit, a free, national social justice summit envisioned and led by students across the country. The SEE Summit will radically cede power to young people; call on educators to face the racist, demoralizing structures, policies, and practices that exist in education; strengthen dialogue and collaboration between students and school staff; and spur a collective commitment to advance inclusive, anti-racist classrooms. Intergenerational Change Initiative presents, I C the Future: Report backs from Intergenerational Research Teams. Join them on April 7, 2021 from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM as youth and adult researchers from the CUNY SPS Youth Studies Program share back findings related to the experiences of immigrant and refugee youth and families during COVID-19. Also, results from ICI’s Youth Ask Youth census about the experiences, desires, and dreams of New Yorkers ages 13-24 in relation to Economics, Community, Learning, Health & Relationships, COVID-19, and Policing. 2021 Global Kids Annual Youth Conference

Global Kids' annual youth-organized and youth-led conference will be held virtually on April 1, 2021 from 1:00 PM - 4:30 PM. This year's conference theme is "Government, Economic Equality, and Human Rights" and will bring together hundreds of young people from public schools and youth organizations for workshops on topics such as poverty criminalization, child labor, immigration, and other government instated human rights violations. Plenary sessions will feature speakers and creative performances and participants will develop strategies to create change on these important issues.
