Social Justice: Developing Opportunities for Young People to Make a Difference - Networking Meeting
On November 3, 2016, from 10:00 am - 1:00 pm, the Center for Educational Options' Networking Meeting is focusing on Social Justice: Developing Opportunities for Young People to Make a Difference. In a time when people are filling the streets to protest unjust police shootings, contentious national elections reveal a divided public and inequitable distribution of resources prevails across neighborhoods, youth practitioners need to partner with young people to tackle community and social issues; engaging them around what is going on in the world in ways that are appropriate for programs and for the age of the young people. Tapping into young people’s expertise and energy can produce benefits for youth, adults, programs, and communities. Sarah Zeller-Berkman, PhD, will begin a conversation around youth participation, youth-adult partnerships and the inextricable links between community, social justice and youth development.
