Free AP Prep Courses with Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History

This summer, the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History is offering three AP prep courses led by Gilder Lehrman master teachers.  Each course consists of 6 one-hour-long classes held weekly via Zoom. AP US History: Hidden Figures (June 30, 2025 – August 4, 2025) focuses on lesser-known people who played a significant role in American history. AP African American Studies: An Overview (July 9, 2025 – August 13, 2025) is an interdisciplinary exploration of the diverse experiences of African Americans and descendants of the diaspora. Finally, AP US Government and Politics: An Overview (July 10, 2025 – August 14, 2025) will explore the five content areas of AP US Government and Politics. Intergenerational Storytelling Workshops with Stoop Stories

Join Stoop Stories and Heights and Hills next month for a series of intergenerational storytelling workshops, taking place at Park Slope Center for Successful Aging (463A 7th St, Brooklyn, NY 11215). On July 17, 2025 from 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM, join a story circle that brings older adults and youth together to share and preserve life stories and listen to one another. The conversation will be guided by prompts about childhood memories, cultural reflections, neighborhood changes, and belonging, and will end in a debrief identifying connections across generations. On July 24, 2025 from 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM, participate in a quick training in oral history interviewing methods, and then get paired with an elder for a short interview. Movie Camp with Five4Five Films

The Annual Five4Five Movie Camp is back for students ages 13-18. During this free program, participants will learn the primary components of writing, acting, directing, and editing. Led by experienced F4F professionals, students collaborate in a fun environment to hone their skills and develop original short films. On the last day of camp, students organize a red carpet event and screen their films for family and friends. The camp will take place July 21, 2025 –July 25, 2025 and July 28, 2025 - Aug 1, 2025 in Pier 57 in Lower Manhattan (25 11th Ave, New York, NY, 10011).  Registration is open via the Five4Five website

Join CAT Youth Theatre

Do you know a young person (grades 6-8 or 9-12) who has something to say and is interested in creating their own plays? Tell them about the CAT Youth Theatre/Junior Youth Theatre Introductory Workshop on September 6, 2025 from 2:00 PM – 5:00 PM, designed to recruit new members for CAT's middle school and high school groups. This is an opportunity to spend time with the award-winning CAT Youth Theatre, meet lots of interesting people and learn more about acting, improvisation, and play-building. CAT Youth Theatre creates original plays from the ideas and concerns of the members. Learn more about CAT membership and this introductory workshop on their application form. Afterschool Photography Program with NYC Salt

NYC Salt is recruiting students for their free afterschool photography program for high school students. The program occurs once a week from September 2025 - June 2026 for three hours per session, integrating advanced photography and visual arts instruction, 1:1 mentorship with industry professionals, portfolio development, and college guidance. Salt's extensive creative network means that this residency revolves around one-of-a-kind learning opportunities, including workshops with professional photographers, field trips to major cultural institutions, and more. All students get a Nikon mirrorless camera system to use for the year. No prior photography experience is required. Applications are due June 30, 2025.
