Free Spring Break Arts Intensive for Young Women in the Bronx

The Program for Girls & Young Women at New Settlement Apartments is now accepting applications for In My Words 2017, an incredible experience offered during NYC Public School Spring Break (April 10-15, 2017), that provides training in singing, poetry in performance, collaborative script writing and filmmaking, under the guidance of highly experienced women artists. Over six days, including a two-night artist retreat, participants develop their own short films, scenes, poetry and music with a focus on social justice, and they share these with the community in a culminating performance on April 15, 2017. Applications are due March 17, 2017. Enrollment is limited to 25 young women.

NYC Department of Design and Construction High School Internship Program 2017

During summer 2017, the NYC Department of Design and Construction (DDC), in partnership with the NYC Department of Youth and Community Development, will offer a summer internship for 30 talented NYC high school students to work full-time in-house at the DDC. The High School Summer Internship Program is designed for students interested in pursuing careers in architecture, engineering, building trades, public administration, business administration or information technology. The program is structured to enable students to gain exposure to the many careers in the built environment and to learn about what it takes to build NYC. Students work five days a week for six weeks, beginning July 5, 2017, in a program that combines hands-on work and educational programming. Applications are due March 31, 2017.

SuperSTARS Leadership Academy

PowerPlay NYC’s SuperSTARS Leadership Academy (SSLA) is a free year-long youth development program for High School girls. SSLA provides health and fitness opportunities, professional development, college readiness support, and leadership development. The program kicks-off with a required 7-week summer intensive program from July 5 - August 18, 2017. Program benefits also include MTA MetroCard to cover transportation, community service hours for High School, and trips to professional sports venues in NYC. Applications due March 31, 2017.
