Boys' Club of New York 14th Annual Boarding School Fair

The Boys' Club of New York's 14th Annual Boarding School Fair takes places May 3, 2017 from 4:30 pm - 7:00 pm at the Elbridge T. Gerry, Jr. Clubhouse on 321 East 111 St., East Harlem, NY. Boys and girls, Boy's Club members, and non-members are welcome to meet with representatives from over 50 schools to learn about independent boarding and day schools and pick up admission applications. The event includes workshops on the application process and financial aid as well as opportunities to speak with current students, parents, and alumni. SABOR & RITMO: International Family Day of Dance

Join the Museum of the City of New York on May 13, 2017 from 12:00 pm - 5:00 pm for a day of interactive learning. Ritmo & Sabor: International Family Day of Dance spotlights dance cultures that shape our diverse city and explores themes featured in the Museum's upcoming exhibition Rhythm & Power: Salsa in New York, opening June 13, 2017. Learn New York salsa with Balmir Latin Dance Studio, Puerto Rican bomba with Milteri Tucker of Bombazo Dance Company, kizomba with DJ Elmano and B-More Kizomba, and much more. Enjoy open-level workshops, family activities for all-ages, and a dance party culminating with live music from Gerardo Contino y Los Habaneros. This program is for dancers of all levels and ages. The 9th Annual Emoti-Con takes place June 17, 2017 at Bartos Forum, New York Public Library. Emoti-Con is NYC's biggest showcase for young designers, makers, technologists, and tinkerers who believe in digital innovation as a tool for positive change in the world around them. Students in grades 6-12 or enrolled in a GED program are invited to sign up, either as individuals or teams. All students will present their work science-fair style and will engage with peers to forge new network connections and also receive feedback from industry-professional judges who are leaders in various areas of the media and technology industry. Students can also elect to be part of the competition to earn digital badges and awards. The deadline to submit a project application is May 26, 2017. Register via the event website.

NYC Salt's Photography Residency Program 2017-2018

NYC Salt is accepting applications for their 2017-2018 Photography Residency Program. This yearlong intense photography class is taught by leading professionals in the creative industry and provides students a college-level, pre-professional immersion in digital photography and storytelling. The studio program is free of charge for high school students who qualify for free or reduced lunch at school (no prerequisites). The program provides personal camera equipment, introduction to video, one-on-one mentoring, college prep programming and academic tutoring, and internship opportunities. Children’s Defense Fund-New York​​ Beat the Odds Scholarship Program

The Children’s Defense Fund-New York is accepting applications for their Beat the Odds (BTO) Scholarship Program for current New York City High School sophomores. The BTO program provides social and academic college readiness programming to high school students that are working to overcome tremendous obstacles in their personal lives, who demonstrate academic achievement, and give back to their community. In addition, the program also offers scholarship opportunities and support services to aid scholars throughout their college career, including ongoing mentoring and career guidance. Students must be nominated or seek nomination for the BTO scholarship program by/from a teacher, counselor, caseworker or other adult who can speak to the following: his/her character, academic achievement, commitment to social justice issues/community, and the tremendous odds he/she beats every day.
