Sound Thinking NYC​ - Music Industry Program for High School Students

The Creative Arts Team (CAT) at City University of New York offers a free program, Sound Thinking NYC, that provides opportunities for young people - especially young women in high school - to explore career opportunities in the music industry. The program includes a three-week Summer Intensive program in July, school year workshops, paid internships in the music industry, and opportunities to enroll in CUNY College Now courses. The program is funded by the Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment. Applications for the Summer Intensive, open to any New York City student who will be entering 11th grade fall 2018, are due by May 21, 2018.

Free Poetry Workshop for Young Women aged 14+ in the South Bronx

Silence Out Loud is a free, 11-week poetry and spoken word workshop led by poet Roya Marsh offered through New Settlement’s Program for Girls & Young Women. The workshop meets Thursday evenings, 5:30 pm – 7: 00 pm, April 12-June 21, 2018 at 1525 Townsend Avenue, Bronx 10452. This workshop is designed for young women ages 14 – young adult. Participants may be enrolled after the first class, space permitting. New participants will need to complete an enrollment packet, but may bring it with them to the first session. NYU College and Career Lab for Middle Schoolers

The NYU College and Career Lab is a free, focused, and fun five-week, July 9 - August 10, 2018, summer academic program for current 7th and 8th graders in the NYC Metro area. Students will participate in introductory week-long courses led by faculty at NYU's School of Law, Stern School of Business, Tisch School of the Arts, Steinhardt School of Culture, Education and Human Development, and Tandon School of Engineering. Each participant is also paired with an NYU student advisor who provides mentorship and guidance for the duration of the Lab. The online application is due April 30, 2018.
