2022 NYC Youth Ambassador Program

The 2022 NYC Votes Youth Ambassador Program will open on February 14, 2022. The program is for New Yorkers ages 14-24 who are passionate about civic engagement, voting, and democracy. This paid opportunity will run from May - August, with an option to stay on through November 2022. Ambassadors will earn up to $175 per month for 10-15 hours of work. Seventeen members will be selected for the 2022 program. The deadline to apply is February 25, 2022 at 5:00PM.

Career Essentials Program

Futures and Options is now accepting applications for their Career Essentials Program. Workshops are held once a week for two hours during a 13-week span from March 7, 2022 - June 6, 2022. Students will be invited to participate in either the Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday groups from 4:30PM - 6:30PM. Participants in the program learn interviewing skills, presentation skills, workplace etiquette, time management, resume and cover letter writing, and have the opportunity to explore careers. The Cooke Young Scholars Program

The Cooke Young Scholars Program is a selective five-year, pre-college scholarship for high-performing 7th grade students with financial need. It provides comprehensive academic and college advising, as well as financial support for school, Cooke-sponsored summer programs, internships, and other learning enrichment opportunities. Educational advisers help Cooke Young Scholars maximize the high school experience and prepare to thrive at the nation’s top-performing colleges. The application for the Cooke Young Scholars Program is currently open and will close on May 9, 2022.

The Text Best Thing: Engaging Students Through Text

Learn the art of engaging young people through text messaging. Drawing from four years worth of alumni texting data, this workshop from The Urban Assembly will teach participants the secret to crafting engaging texts, particularly how a few intentionally crafted characters, gifs, and emojis can build skills and promote advocacy in students. The session takes place February 24, 2022 from 3:00PM - 4:00PM. Registration is open.

Credit for Learning: Making Learning Count Outside of School

A new toolkit from the Afterschool Alliance can help your afterschool state network advocate for credit-for-learning opportunities and begin a conversation with policymakers about bringing extended learning opportunities to your community. Through credit-for-learning opportunities, youth delve into a subject of their choice, build career skills and foster relationships with industry mentors, and engage with learning outside of the classroom while earning school credit and complementing their school day curriculum.

Changing the Odds: A Community Vision for Why Education Equity Matters and What We Should Do About It.

#DegreesNYC has released a new report, Changing the Odds: A Community Vision for Why Education Equity Matters and What We Should Do About It. This report examines the 10-year trajectory of 65,000 9th graders who began in New York City public schools in 2008. It details heartbreaking systemic racial disparities, yet holds out for hope that change is coming. It concludes with recommendations and a call to action on how together we can usher in that change.
