New York Botanical Garden Explainer Program

New York Botanical Garden's Explainer Program is recruiting high school students to lead hands-on science and nature activities with the children and families who visit the Children's Adventure Garden at the New York Botanical Garden in the Bronx. Explainers gain foundational job skills, experience with teaching, and knowledge about the local environment. Initial internships are unpaid, but MetroCards are distributed to defray transportation costs. The deadline to apply is November 21, 2022.

Prudential Emerging Visonaries

Prudential Emerging Visionaries is a national program that celebrates and awards young people who create solutions to financial and societal challenges. Prudential is accepting applications for the program from people ages 14 to 18 who are taking on today’s toughest financial and societal challenges. The deadline to apply is November 3, 2022.

The Cooke College Scholarship Program is an undergraduate scholarship opportunity available to high-achieving high school seniors with financial need who seek to attend and graduate from the nation's best four-year colleges and universities. Each award is intended to cover a significant share of the student’s educational experience including tuition, living expenses, books and required fees. The deadline to apply is November 17, 2022.

Combatting Employee Burnout with Behavioral Design

The Behavioral Design Center at ideas42, in partnership with United Neighborhood Houses, will present an interactive workshop on November 15, 2022 from 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM. This workshop introduces the psychological causes of burnout and shares strategies for making work more manageable, helping teams respond to problems, and boosting staff morale. This training will be most helpful to managers and supervisors at New York City social service and education organizations that work with children, youth, and families. Registration is now open.

Nuestros Saberes: a call for art, reconciliation and justice in education

Calling all artists and creators who are passionate about education! Eileen Jimenez, a doctoral candidate at University of Washington Tacoma, is conducting dissertation research that explores "What would education look and feel like if we could reimagine what it means to learn?" You can read more about the goals of the research through the official call for submissions. Pieces of any medium are invited, and in addition to being included in the research findings, submissions will be considered for display at galleries in Seattle, WA, Austin, TX, or online. Do you have a story that you want to share about teaching during the pandemic? Oral History Summer School, an oral history training program based in Hudson, NY, has been collecting stories of educators since June 2020 through their Education Narratives Project. If you'd like to add to this collective narrative, call their Educators Storyline at 1-844-SPEAK05 (1-844-773-2505) to share thoughts, insights, or stories via a voicemail of up to five minutes. Deadline to submit stories is October 31, 2022.
