The Moth is looking for 10th to 12th-grade students who are interested in crafting and sharing their own personal narratives as part of the All Country initiative, a free, virtual, out-of-school project. For eight weeks, students from across the country meet to learn how to develop, practice, and share personal stories. All Country activities include games, brainstorming, story crafting and ends with a private storytelling show for friends and family! Applications close on January 15, 2023.
Join CUNY School of Professional Studies for a two-part event for youth and adult allies that combines self-care and community care on January 18, 2023, from 4:30 PM – 7:30 PM. During the first hour of the New Year, New You, New Youth Agenda participants will have the opportunity to partake in a variety of offerings geared to improve rejuvenation and well-being. The second part of the event is focused on sharing back and discussing data from thousands of youth via The Intergenerational Change Initiatives' (ICI) 2022 Youth Ask Youth Census as well as strategizing around the five areas identified by young people that will be on the 2023 NYC Youth Agenda. Fostering Advancement & Careers through Enrichment Training in Science (FACETS) is a six-week virtual, interdisciplinary, research-intensive summer program hosted by The Office of Diversity and Inclusion within the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. FACETS offers a cadre of coursework, professional development, and networking opportunities to increase participants competitiveness for graduate school admission. This program is for rising college juniors and seniors. The deadline to apply is February 17, 2023.
Child Mind Insitute’s two session online Educator Support Series takes place this month. The first workshop, focused on the topic of ADHD, takes place on January 17, 2023 from 3:00 PM – 4:00 PM and will address how to best support children who have difficulties with attention and behavior, providing practical strategies to utilize their strengths, manage symptoms at school or at home, and build skills for the future. The second workshop in the series, Dyslexia 101, takes place on January 25, 2023 from 4:00 PM – 5:00 PM. The second session will provide an overview of the neurobiology of reading and dyslexia as well as discuss evidence-based interventions and accommodations. Registration is now open.
Teachable NYC's School-Aged Childcare Credential Course is an in-depth study of competency standards that reflect best practices in after-school programs. The Spring 2023 course takes place on Wednesdays or Thursdays between February and April, virtually on Zoom. This course is specifically designed for individuals currently employed in school age childcare programs. Competency standards demonstrating the ability to nurture children’s physical, social, emotional and intellectual growth will be explored. Youth INC has released The Pandemic Report: Considerations for a Post-Pandemic Future for Youth Development Nonprofits. This first-of-its-kind report focuses on data and insights from youth development organizations about the knock-on effect of the pandemic over the past three years. Their interactive webpage illustrates the resilience and ingenuity of their Nonprofit Partner Network and highlights key statistics surrounding the challenges brought on by the pandemic, including loss of revenue, increased community demand for services, and staffing concerns.
