Introduce young people in programs to healthy eating habits with easy recipes and activities compiled from afterschool programs in New York City. To ensure that snack time is easy, filling, educational, and fun, this cookbook includes easy to prepare recipes that require no cooking or special training and that can be done in regular program space.

These stories and best practices come directly from partners and afterschool center staff implementing GSG evidence-based curricula.

Know Your Funders: A Guide to STEM Funding for Afterschool

The Afterschool Alliance has produced Know Your Funders: A Guide to STEM Funding for Afterschool, a resource to help program leaders identify, sort through, and take advantage of the many funding opportunities available for afterschool STEM. They have also developed a toolkit to help programs become advocates for STEM in afterschool. Making the Case for STEM Afterschool provides steps to developing a strong case to present to any audience. It helps users tailor the message and identify data and talking points, and offers policy recommendations.

STEM Learning in Afterschool: An Analysis of Impact and Outcomes

The Afterschool Alliance recently released a report, “STEM Learning in Afterschool: An Analysis of Impact and Outcomes,” that found that afterschool programs can play an important role in helping to advance science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) skills in U.S. students. The report analyzed evaluations from high-quality afterschool STEM programs throughout the country, and determined that these programs yielded benefits in three broad categories: improved attitudes toward STEM fields and careers; increased STEM knowledge and skills; and increased likelihood of graduation and pursuing a STEM career.

Although many of the statewide afterschool networks are collecting data from afterschool
providers in their states on afterschool STEM programming, this report offers the first national look at availability and access to afterschool STEM programs and parental attitudes and expectations for such programs.
